CUF Community Champions play an important role in helping to support and empower local people, churches and leaders to build stronger, happier and thriving communities.
The power of community
At the heart of our work is the belief that each individual has gifts and skills, and each community – no matter how disadvantaged it may feel – has valuable assets. So, when we respond to issues in local communities, we work in a way which taps into these assets and which empowers local people to take the lead in determining what is best for them.
This is the difference we can make together:
Building relationships
Through the Together Network, we give national support to local action. We are dedicated to linking churches and other community organisations, providing resources, signposting and support. In 2020, the network distributed 230,000 parcels into the heart of communities, including school holiday food provisions.
Financial fairness
Our work through the Just Finance Foundation helps people avoid and find ways out of financial distress by building their financial capability and providing relevant support and signposting to self-help and services. In the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, we launched the Covid Cash Course to help people financially navigate the crisis. We have now trained over 1,000 community leaders who have reached over 30,000 vulnerable families with vital financial information.
Community cohesion
Our work with Near Neighbours brings together people in communities that are ethnically and religiously diverse, so that they can get to know each other better, build relationships of trust, and collaborate together on initiatives that improve their local communities. In 2020, more than 1,500 volunteers stepped forward and gave 50,000 hours of their time to help.
