You’re adding to the light, by adding to the love
The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it - John 1:5

As we fill our homes and churches with light to celebrate the birth of Jesus, the light of the world, CUF-supported Places of Welcome are bringing that same light into communities across the country. They offer not only warmth and hope to so many, but also friendship, belonging, and a place to simply be.
No one should have to face the darkness of poverty, loneliness, or isolation. Places of Welcome is just one way CUF comes alongside churches and local groups to respond; empowering everyday people to be a light in their own neighbourhoods.
This Christmas, will you help us light the way? Your donation can help build a fairer, more compassionate society where everyone feels seen, valued, and loved
“I know people who were in my situation who died. But I’m still here, still alive, and in a much better place.” David
David spent years in and out of prison and became trapped in addiction, losing 10 years of his life. “I was hospitalised for 17 weeks with a deep vein thrombosis and an ulcer on my spine,” he shared. “But in another way, it saved me.”
Determined to rebuild his life, David entered a drug programme and began taking steps in a new direction. That journey led him to the Place of Welcome at St Barnabas Soup Kitchen, where he discovered kindness, understanding, and a sense of belonging.
At St Barnabas Soup Kitchen, David began to connect with people who encouraged him. “I didn’t want to slip back,” he said, “so I made new friends and started coming here.” The warm, non-judgmental welcome he received helped him feel accepted and hopeful.
“I thank the Man Upstairs, for watching over me . I thank every CUF supporter who helps keep the Soup Kitchen and other Places of Welcome going. And I thank you personally, for any gift you can make today” David
By supporting CUF, you can help ensure that Places of Welcome will continue to light the way for people like David. We’d be so grateful for your help. You can read more about David’s story here.

A 50 strong Fellowship group at Christ Church Barnet, who meet every week for activities hosted a bring and buy sale for Church Urban Fund. One of the organisers, Judith Brearley, commented: “Our members are interested in the outside world – we don’t want to be insular, and fundraising helps us engage with big issues like hardship. We are a Christian group – we always open with a Christian message – but it’s through our friendship and actions that we are showing the love of Jesus.”
