Easter 2020
It’s an Eastertide like no other - a strange and worrying time – but we are busy, offering a practical response to connect and support all communities
Easter is a reminder that we Christians are called to be people of hope - people who believe and trust in the promise of God. If you look carefully, there are signs of hope all around us. Already the stories coming in from our projects all over the country are giving me huge hope.
- In Cornwall our development workers are coordinating a county-wide effort to keep Foodbanks open. They have sought new corporate donors, have reached out to families in need, and are distributing new guidance for Foodbanks.
- In Coventry, a Good Neighbours project is offering food and friendship support to isolated elderly people through telephone calls, food parcels, shopping and medicine collections. An incredible 160 volunteers have been recruited for this scheme.
- In Leeds, one of our projects gathers a group of refugee women and local women to cook together. They are now chatting, swapping recipes and setting each other creative tasks by phone. These new and meaningful friendships are invaluable links at this time.
- Nationally, our Just Finance Foundation equips all generations to manage their money wisely and have launched a ‘Coronavirus Help Hub’ to signpost practical help at this difficult time.
This is faith in action, building community in a time of imposed isolation. What does it mean to you to live as people of hope this Easter? To us, it means we choose trust and thankfulness, we choose compassion and care – and we work together toward a single purpose: love. We are #Peopleofhope and right now, we desperately need your support. Please donate here to help us to continue our vital work.
