Places of Welcome at CARE – A Place for Connection and Growth
Date Posted: Nov 14, 2024.
Welcome Session: Fridays, 11:30 am - 1:30 pm, CARE, Lower Drayton Lane, Penkridge, Staffs ST19 5RE
Chase Aqua Rural Enterprise CIC (CARE) joined the Places of Welcome network in 2023, embracing the ethos of the 5 Ps: Place, People, Presence, Provision, and Participation. This community hub encourages individuals of all backgrounds to connect, learn new skills, and volunteer in an open-air setting. From vocational skills like woodcraft and gardening to activities that boost personal growth, CARE provides a space that strengthens mental health, builds confidence, and creates pathways to employment and friendship.
CARE offers more than just a safe countryside retreat—it’s a welcoming environment where individuals are supported as they develop self-esteem, grow their skills, and experience personal transformation. In this serene space, people of diverse faiths and backgrounds find common ground in their journey toward independence, meaningful work, and community involvement.
Simon’s Story: Building Confidence and Skills for a New Path
Volunteer, C.A.R.E.
Simon’s journey with CARE began when he was seeking work and the local Job Centre suggested connecting with community resources. CARE, with its focus on nurturing both skills and wellbeing, was a perfect fit.
“That was about five years ago now,” Simon recalls. “At CARE, I learned woodcraft, how to grow fruit and veg, and developed skills I never imagined having. But even more, I found a sense of purpose in helping others.”
Through CARE, Simon found the confidence to pursue a support worker role, where he’s been employed for the past two and a half years. “Looking back, I know I wouldn’t have had the confidence to apply without the experience I gained here,” he says. The friendships he’s built are just as important. Many who find support at CARE continue to return, fostering a warm, enduring community. “It’s a calming place where they take time to know you, support your wellbeing, and help you take the next steps. I’d encourage anyone to come along and try it.”
