Church Engagement

At Church Urban Fund we seek to live out the Gospels teaching to love our neighbour and to use our gifts to inspire churches to help us transform lives. It's more important now to reach out and engage with our communities.

Together we can make a difference to some of the most vulnerable and those living with inequality. Often churches are aware of the growing needs of the homeless, the lonely, the refugee, those living with food poverty and many other vulnerable groups but are not always aware of how best to help. We offer churches an opportunity to support our amazing work by becoming a CUF Church Partner.

When you support our work you expand your impact from the local to the national. When churches support our work we can offer fundraising resources such as posters, congregational gift-aid envelopes and prayer diaries as well as a certificate for your church.

Ways to support us:

  • Pray for our work – download our latest prayer diary here
  • Take a collection for us at a Service
  • Make a gift from your church (i.e. through mission allocations)
  • Take part in the Big Pancake Party or the Advent Sleepout Challenge
  • Request a speaker – our speakers are excellent engaging communicators and are available to speak on the theme of faith and social action in our communities and the Church Urban Fund. Our speakers include: licensed lay readers and ministers, retired clergy, non-stipendiary ministers, and individual church members.

School Engagement

At the Church Urban Fund we want to support schools as they teach their students about the communities around them.

Partnering with CUF at your school will offer students an opportunity to learn more about the communities around them as we move through the church calendar each year. Students will be given the chance to engage with, learn about, and offer support to those who are struggling with food poverty through the Big Pancake Party on Shrove Tuesday, debt and financial difficulty through the Mustard Seed Appeal at Harvest, and homelessness and marginalisation through the Advent Sleepout Challenge in the run up to Christmas.

As well as access to these annual events, partnering with CUF offers the opportunity for students to learn about British values such as social justice, liberty, and respect for those of different faiths.

Social Justice: The Together Network is committed to providing justice in England’s communities through supporting the social action work of churches and local communities

Liberty: The Just Finance Foundation is working to improve financial literacy. We want a fair financial system for everyone. A system that is easy to understand, accessible and available to all. One of our Core initiatives is Lifesavers a financial education programme for primary schools.

Respect for those of different faiths: Near Neighbours works to create stronger communities in areas of diversity through encouraging social action work to take place to improve neighbourhoods.

"At Bishop Wand Church of England School we have thoroughly enjoyed supporting CUF as our school charity for three years. It has been a joy and a great learning experience for our school to raise money and also learn about the great work the charity supports throughout the England."
