# Hope Hut, Nottingham

Every Tuesday in Nottingham, Hope Hut fills up for football, running and games. It’s run by local people, for local people, and in winter it doubles as a warm place to sit with company.

### Lee’s Story

Lee came to Hope Hut after his relationship ended suddenly last year, leaving him in a one-bed flat looking after his two children. He describes being in a dark place and worried about his family’s future.

He saw the Hope Hut sign, and as someone who loves running he decided to join. He is currently out of work, and now puts his free time into volunteering at Hope Hut and turning his hand to whatever needs doing.

“Sometimes it’s been tough and I’m still struggling, but the others put the kettle on when I walk through the door, and there’s always someone here for me.”

### Luke’s Story

Luke Goss leads Hope Hut. He describes Tuesday sessions that draw 40 to 60 people for football, running and games, and a warm welcome in winter for anyone facing isolation.

One thing he is proud of is the ‘Chasing Hope’ board, where people pin up their photo and write down what they want to achieve. He says the area is sometimes only seen for its problems, such as knife crime, but that there are a lot of talents and gifts here too.

“We aren’t social workers. We’re people who live in these streets, but we encourage growth and dreams.”
