“I was delighted to attend the celebration event, a heart warming occasion that brought together generations to celebrate the stories, experiences, and legacy of the Windrush generation.

Before the performance began, I had the opportunity to speak with attendees and enjoy the welcoming atmosphere. Many of the elders whose portraits featured in the exhibition were chatting with visitors, while families gathered to support the primary school children taking part in the celebration.

From the moment I arrived, the event was welcoming and well organised. Guests were welcomed with a selection of refreshments: delicious vegetarian wraps, made with beautifully flaky roti and generously filled with a flavourful chickpea filling, as well as gently fried plantain skewers, which proved to be a real crowd favourite.

The footage captured children listening attentively to their stories, asking thoughtful questions, and learning about the experiences of the Windrush generation firsthand.

The event concluded with a wonderful performance by the primary school children, inspired by everything they had learned through the project. Their enthusiasm, creativity, and respect for the stories they had heard provided a fitting and uplifting finale to the celebration.

It was a memorable event that showcased the power of storytelling, creativity, and community, bringing generations together to celebrate an important part of our shared history.
